Burned Wood Chessboard

A chess board I made for a friend's birthday. She bought an old celtic-inspired chess set in Scotland a few years ago, but the pieces are too large for a standard chess board. So, I decided to make her one that would be big enough, and surrounded it by a intertwined oak-branch border reminiscent of celtic knotwork. I don't know exactly how long this took me, but it was a heck of a long time. I worked on it on and off for a couple weeks.
